INTERPOL STRATEGY DVI IN TERRORIST INCIDENTS

Mick Free
The National Emergency Procedures Co-ordinator for the Association of Chief Police Officers within the UK

At the Interpol Standing Committee May 2002 a small working group was established to develop an Interpol strategy for DVI in terrorist incidents. This was presented back to the Committee in May 2003 where it received full endorsement. Mick Free's presentation covers the main areas in the Strategy. The main focus is on the development of optimum standards and strict forensic procedures, remembering each deceased victim or human remain must also be treated as evidence.

In addition the Strategy also provides a template for the development within member countries, and Interpol, of such areas as risk assessment, co-ordinated assistance, training, exercising and equipment.
